and what an impact he has had

ADAM Flint is confident that midfielder Correy Davidson is at Witham Town for “the right reasons” and is delighted to have a player of his calibre on board as they look to break a run of form that has seen them without a win in 12 games.

Witham bowed out of the FA Trophy and the Essex Senior Cup in the last week after defeats by Potters Bar Town and then Dagenham and Redbridge and head to AFC Hornchurch looking to end their winless run in Bostik League division north on Saturday.

They then follow that with a home game in the league against Dereham Town on Tuesday and Flint is hoping that the arrival of Davidson can be a lift for his team.
Despite being only 24, the attacking midfielder has plenty of experience, having spent time with clubs including Grays Athletic, Heybridge Swifts and Bishop’s Stortford as well as playing for Republic of Ireland as a youngster.

Flint said: “We’ve signed Correy and he is a very good player so we’re delighted to have him.

“He’ll get more time (at Hornchurch) on Saturday and there won’t be many teams in our league who know much about him.

“He was at Coggeshall at the start of this year and has taken a big drop in money to come to us as he said he wanted to help us out.

“People may think he’s here for the money, but he’s here for the right reasons.
“He’s not here for the money and we’re really pleased to have him as he has played for Ireland at age group levels and was at Bishop’s Stortford last year.

“People have told us that we have a really good player and it’s great that he is with us for the right reasons.

“He’s a really good player.”

Davidson isn’t the only new player at Witham, though, as forward Jeffrey Gyamfi has also joined and is another player who Flint feels will boost his side.

“Jeff (Gyamfi) did very well for us against Dagenham (in the Essex Senior Cup) on Tuesday,” added the Town boss.

“He has joined us from Whyteleaf after playing for them against us in pre-season.
“He’d been on the bench in the two games before that but it was his first 90 minutes and I thought he did really well.

“He’s coming up from Lewisham, but he wanted to join us after what he saw in pre-season and got in touch with us.”

Witham will head to Hornchurch on Saturday looking to end a run that has seen them go 12 games without a win and Flint said he would be tweaking his team’s preparations ahead of the weekend to try something different.

He said: “We trained last night rather than on Thursday so we can go out on Thursday for a night out; we’re taking them bowling.

“I want to try to get them away from the football a bit and to have a laugh together.

“I’ve never been in a situation like this before where you have a run like this and I think they maybe need to get away as they are seeing us in the same environment and I want them to enjoy themselves and be together in a different environment.

“Having said that, though, I thought we were together against Dagenham and they worked well as a team.”
