Christmas Break Return Sees Withdean Cruise Past Crowborough

Back in action after a festive break, we took the trip up to a bitterly cold and windy Crowborough athletic. We was underway and Crowborough showed they hadn't forgot there impressive offside trap, as within the first ten minutes we struggled to break them down but when we did, we found the flag was risen.

We wanted an early goal to settle any nerves and ensure this must-win game was in our control. Guille soon found the breakthrough, followed quickly by a second after a smart through ball from Rowley. The flood gates were open, the goals came flowing. We went into the break 6-0 up, with our captain Bourne adding a rare goal along with Goodsell adding two, before Guille secured a first half hat-trick.

Knight produced a couple of good saves at 2-0 to eradicate any chance of a Crowborough comeback.

The second half produced another 7 goals, and they were produced in a manor which I was very pleased with. We all kept our shape and kept disciple, which we didn't in the home game. We played as a team and looked a real force.

Goodsell got the first of the second half after Bartlett produced a fine ball which only needed the finish, and we know we can rely on our top scorer for that.

We was comfortable but the game was not won, so it was time to introduce our secret weapons. Davies and O'Neil. An instant impact saw 4 goals in quick succession, O'Neil with his first of the season, Goodsell again, Davies with his second in as many games before Guille saved his best till last with a superb strike to the top corner.

O'Neil, bursting with confidence then took it upon himself to strike from 20 yards, leaving the keeper with no chance. He was smelling a hat-trick. He soon gobbled it up and got himself a half hour trio. Deadly.

A 13-0 win that saw us go top of the table, if only briefly until Polgate saw off Langton with ease in the lunchtime kick off.

1 down, 6 to go. It's in our hands. We're good enough, we've just got to perform at our best in each of the remaining games.

Man of the Match; another exceptional performance from a player who is really setting the tone for our season. Ollie Guille, well done mate, the goals are now coming to go with the performances.
