WITHDEAN CLOSE GAP ON LEADERS AS THEY HIT DOUBLE FIGURES AGAINST CROWBOROUGH

Today's lunchtime fixture saw us take on Crowborough Athletic back at our home ground, Stanley Deason.

We took a very early lead with a fortunate own goal, a perfect start to settle any nerves. However this wasn't the case and a mix up at the back allowed Athletic to level the game. 1 a piece within five minutes. The remaining 40 minutes was filled with constant pressure, goals and offsides from Withdean. We went in to the break with a 7-1 lead thanks to 7 different goal scorers. 1 from Goodsell to get us back into the lead, an absoloute thunderbolt from Williams who let rip from 40 yards. Bendu finally found the back of the net having previously hit the bar, post and having one wiped off for offside. Guille, Fitzgerald and Davies all notched to ensure a comfortable half time lead.

We wanted more more goals, and if it wasn't for a tidy offside trap set from Athletic, it could have been double the lead we had. Crowborough rarely threatened us, we were in control.

Second half was a different story, I found it difficult to watch. Although we got another 3 with Bartlett netting along with Goodsell and Rowley our level of performance dropped dramatically. We didn't keep discipline and everyone just wanted to score. We stopped playing as a team, we didn't move the ball and we didn't score as many as we should have, which is an opportunity missed as this league is looking that tight it could well come down to goal difference.

All in all, it's another 3 points on the board. We are half way through the season, we've got some huge games coming up starting this week away to Henfield who are getting some decent results so we will need to be at our best. After Christmas we are away to Crowborough and Langton. Then we have the big three at home. Southwick, Polgate and Perrywood. We need to keep the level high and keep working hard.

Man of the Match: started the game in his favoured position and showed us what he can do, he defended well but also showed his attacking attributes and with a goal like that it was a performance of class. Lj Williams, well done mate a goal to be remember !
