Horley Town Home - Match Report
Withdean Get New Season Underway With Home Win Against Horley.
We were back in action today after a nice summer break which was well deserved after last season achievements.
Horley got an impressive result in their opening fixture, beating Horsham 5-3. They were ready and waiting for us today and must have fancied their chances as they watched Withdean walk down the hill nursing some serious headaches.
The headaches were contagious as by half time.
Both Scott and Rich had contracted them. A poor first half performance in which we didn’t string a pass, create chances or compete in anyway saw Horley take a 2-0 lead in to the break.
The Withdean lads then received not only the hairdryer treatment, they got the straighteners, the curlers, the brushes and the gels.
We came out a different team. Fighting for everything and taking the game to Horley. We looked like how we did all last season. An early goal was vital and would have give us a real chance of getting something out of it.
A penalty was awarded to us within the first ten minutes of the half, Guille stepped up and put it away into the top corner. Game on.
Hyde came off the bench just before half time to make his Withdean debut and instantly had an impact on the game. He got hold of the midfield which we wasn’t dominating, and made it his. Shortly after Guilles penalty Hyde strikes the ball on the volley from 20 yards which flew into the back of the net. 2-2. What a way to introduce yourself.
We weren’t settling for the draw and we had Horley where we wanted them, on the back foot, pinned in the own half with one way traffic.
Guille picked the ball up on the hour mark, half way inside the Horley half, weaved through 3 players before striking into the top corner to make it 3-2. An unbelievable solo effort.
We were now in total control of the game and Horley didn’t have a single shot on target in the second half. We saw it out comfortably and got the 3 points. A second half to be proud of, that’s what we're all about. Our season is underway and we’re off to winning ways.
Man of the Match: kept battling all game and tried to make things happen in both halves. His two second half goals were top drawer. Took the game by the scruff of the neck today and set the example. Well done Ollie Guille ??
