Horley Town Away - Match Report
Withdean Continue Winning Start As Goodsell Grabs a Horley Hat-Trick
We were back on the road Sunday morning as we had our return fixture against Horley.
It was never going to be easy and the opening stages showed that. It was a tight, cagey game with both teams having limited chances. It was a battle.
Midway through the first half we started to get on top, we were winning the battle which enabled us to play, Rowley who was pulling the strings in the middle of the park played a through ball into Fitzgerald who only had the keeper to beat. He did just that and opened his account for the season. A goal that credited his fine start to the game.
Horley kept going, and had a few chances of their own but nothing to really concern Knight until their striker turned in the box and rattled one into the bottom corner.
1-1 at half time and it could go either way.
The second half started the same as the first, tight, edgey and back to the battle. This time Horley we’re getting on top and got a goal to compliment the hard work. 2-1. It looked a long way back from here, as Horley we’re looking strong and dominant at this point.
However we have been here so many times before, behind in games that we need to win. This looked a bigger task than ever but Withdean didn’t think so. The work rate, the quality of football and the passion went up a notch or two, we were back on top as with Goodsell back in the team there was always a goal threat. Rowley again plays a through ball with 20 minutes to go, Goodsell latches on to it and finished. 2-2. Here we go...
A draw didn’t seem enough for Withdean as we pressed on. 2 more goals followed in quick succession for Goodsell to make it 4-2. Game over. Back to Brighton 3 points in the bag.
Not many teams will do the double over them this year. We’ve had a hard start to the season and have stepped up and won each game. Quality from every player in the team.
We move on to the next game, keep pushing on through the season and we will get out of it what we put it Into it and so far there are no complaints.
Man of the match: Ran the game start to finish, bossed the midfield, created chances, was a threat himself when going forward and helped the defence out when we was under pressure. Well done Byron great performance??
