The time has almost come… the biggest game of the season is upon us… Withycombe Vs. Exmouth Quins at Raleigh Park!
Just over 24 hours to go until one of the closest local derbies takes place and we can’t wait!
It’s been a fortnight since our last game where injury and unavailability meant we were forced to travel to Plymouth with just sixteen players to face Devonport Services IIs. The boys fought against everything thrown at them and, overall, put on a pleasing performance at The Rectory and despite losing 33-13, this was a score that certainly didn’t reflect the game and would compliment Devonport.
Withies can be encouraged with the return of a few of those players who are back fit and ready for this week’s encounter.
On their last outing, Exmouth were 21-18 winners against South Molton. This win saw them replace Withy in seventh place in the league on 37 points. Withy now sit eighth on 35 points.
This means that a win for Withy this week would see them not only regain the bragging rights for another season, but also leapfrog Exmouth in the league standings once again, all with a game in hand.
However, Exmouth will also be keen on keeping that league spot and, arguably more importantly, gaining their first league win over Withy in our two seasons together.
When we met Exmouth back in November, Withy ran out 18-0 winners at a rainy Imperial Recreation Ground. Tries from Max Rickards and Gabe Ellis, two Lewis Tose conversions and a Tom Cooke conversion earned the points on the day.
Games against the Quins are always tough ones, and we can definitely expect another strong challenge from them again this weekend and the boys will need to pull out all the stops to keep their derby-day form going. Whatever happens – we’ll be guaranteed another cracker of a game that you won’t want to miss!!
Kick off is at 2:30pm tomorrow afternoon at Raleigh Park. The clubhouse will be open from Midday and after the game we have live music from The Club Classics Experience. Don’t miss a second of the action!
