Momentum increases for final
In the Final match in the Fishermans cup and their penultimate game of junior rugby, Withycombe u16s faced Paington away. Withys were under no pressure to win having already qualified for the final against Teignmouth, but there were no signs of easing off. In a stunning display of running rugby with, some ferocious attacking and solid defence, Withycombe won the game with more than 50 points to 0 within the first 30 minutes.
As Captain Luke Davies kicked to get the game started, Withycombe pushed Paignton back within their own 22 until after about 2 minutes Paignton were penalised for coming in for the side. A quick tap and go saw the ball speed out to the right where Max Dix crossed the line to score his first of two for Withys. Seven more trys were to follow in quick succession with two from Harry Neath-Rogers, and one each for Thomas Croal, Ben Dawson, Josh Saunders and Aaron Lee. Jason Farrant kicked all try's to convert, maximising the scores and helping bring the game to a quick end for a team that are on top form and demonstrated why they fully deserve their place in the final. Again it was a complete team performance with every player drawing in defenders, gaining ground by running penetrating lines to creat space for the scorers to finish the moves.
With the the team in great such shape and working so well, they present tough opposition for Teignmouth in two weeks time. Good luck Withys!!!!!
