2-1 defeat leaves us on the pricipice

Witney Town went down 2-1 to Cheltenham Saracens at home - Saracens took the lead early and Witney had a penalty saved in the first half before a wondergoal made it 2-0 to Cheltenham at half time. In spite of dominating the play Witney could only manage to get one goal back from Andrew Younie with 6 mins to go.

Bracknell lost 5-3 to Reading Town and finish bottom of the league. Witney have the same points but one last game on Friday at home to Kidlington who saved themselves today with a 2-2 draw at home to Wantage. Fairford themselves are 1 point better off than Witney with 2 games to play after an amazing 2-1 win at high flying Ardley - Fairford are at Highworth on Tuesday and then next Saturday home against Wantage. At the top end Oxford City Nomads beat Abingdon Town 3-0 whilst Shortwood drew at Flackwell Heath. Nomads still need 2 points to seal the title though but Ardley's defeat meant Shortwood celebrated a possible promotion from 2nd place anyway as they now cannot be caught. Other results - Henley 0 Binfield 1, Highworth 2 Wokingham and Emmbrook 0 and Slimbridge 2 Thame 0.

The reserves once more were unable to field a team at Brimscombe and Thrupp and the game was awarded.
Incidentally in the Reserve Section the game that was postponed between Witney Town Reserves and Wootton Bassett Reserves and the game between Witney Reserves and Wantage Reserves were awarded against Witney after we were unable to field a side in either match and will not be rearranged. Other reserve results - Cricklade 2 Cheltenham Saracens 1, Fairford 3 Hook Norton 0, Old Woodstock 0 Wootton Bassett 3 and Wantage 2 Highworth 1.

The Under 18s next game is on Monday against Fleet at the Marriotts' Stadium in the Challenge Shield kick off at 8pm.

The final game took place in the Under 18 Allied Counties League and saw Holmer Green defeat Ardley 4-3 on Thursday night. Witney Town finished 3rd out of 8 in the end with Abingdon United top and Didcot 2nd.
