3-1 win away lifts us off the bottom

Abingdon Town 1 Witney Town 3

Witney secured a hard fought victory at Abingdon Town which lifted them up 2 places in the table. Andy Younie broke through the offside trap and finished well round the keeper on 28 mins to give Witney the lead but Abingdon levelled before the break through Janes. The key moment occurred 11 mins into the 2nd half when Abingdon were reduced to 10 men for a 2nd booking after a late challenge on Webb. Witney took full advantage with Austin having an effort well saved before Jon Rixon poked home on 78 mins to give us the lead. Tom Austin completed the scoring with 9 mins left with a neat finish to seal the win. A great all round team performance was duly rewarded for the effort shown.

Team - Simms, Kyberd, Lonsdale, Webb, Owen (sub Moore), Smart, Styles, Austin, Younie, Bunting (sub Thompson), Rixon (sub Almond)

The other key result of the day was Shortwood's convincing 4 nil win over Fairford. They are now bottom on 26 points from 37 games with Bracknell just above them on 28 points from 39. Witney sit on 28 points from 38 with a better goal difference than Bracknell with Kidlington on 31 points from 38.

With two homes games left Witney's fate is very much in their own hands now.
