Headington Amateurs 5 Witney Town 6 (after extra time) - 4-4 at full time

In another 11 goal thriller the Entertainers of Witney Town were at it again in the Bluefin Challenge Cup Round 2 at Division 1 East Leaders Headington Amateurs. With both sides going gung ho for goals all day long it was a cracking encounter for all who watched with the hosts coming out of it with heads held high in spite of the result going against them. The first half was relatively tame in comparison to the rest of the match. Kameron Abassi and Adam Morris had early chances before Ferreira's cross was thumped into the net in a crowded box by Yashwa Romeo (2 in 2 for him) on 16 minutes. Mark Janes then missed a golden chance to make it 2 by chipping over. Zoldan made a good save a couple of minutes later from Hedger with the follow up hitting the post but 6 minutes before halt time the hosts levelled it. Witney switched off and Jacob was there to turn in the cross from the right.

The 2nd half began with the Blanketmen forced into two changes through injury - Ferreira replaced by Moses and Romeo replaced by Thomas. Mark Janes appeared to be brought down for a penalty by keeper Jenkins early on in the half as he rounded him but the referee adjudged the keeper got a touch on the ball. And then the A's went in front for the first time. A shot from the left was saved by Zoldan but the ball was put back in for Hedger to bundle it home on 51. But Witney were level within 7 minutes. James Dobson's strong run into the box was finished by a right foot curler into the corner of the net for 2-2. Witney then took control. Mark Janes got clear through once more and this time was bundled down by Jenkins in the box but the ball fell to Ryan Brooks to tap home to make it 3-2 on the hour. Zoldan made another good save from a one on one before Brooks got his second with 20 minutes to go slipping the ball past Jenkins and in off the post. Janes was forced off with an ankle injury on 75 and Meade came on. The game looked over until suddenly out of the blue Headington got one back with 5 minutes to go. Cuff with a great shot into the corner. This inspired the A's who bombarded the box and Payne smacked one in on 88 minutes to take the game to extra time against the odds.

However in injury time Witney looked the stronger side - Meade had an effort cleared off the line before on 99 minutes Ryan Brooks completed his hat-trick with a fantasic run and classy finish. The tie was sealed on 107 minutes by Brooks again - his 4th being deflected in off a defender to make it 6-4. There was still time for another late scare when Payne got his 2nd with a header after more sloppy defending but this time the Blanketmen held on to seal their place in the next round.
