The last two weeks or so has seen us lose 2-0 to our neighbours Stanway Rovers in the final five minutes, beat second place Brantham Athletic 3-0 for our first away win of the season and picked up an away point against bottom club Great Yarmouth which prior to the start of the match would have been disappointing but under the circumstances of coming back from 2-0 down with only a couple of minutes to spare we felt happy with that.
We do occupy the final relegation spot but with 12 games to go and much better form we are confident that we can collect the points required to guarantee safety in the Ridgeons Premier for next season. It’s not an ideal position but one that gives us a real chance.
The squad is looking much stronger with the reserves stepping up and gaining valuable playing minutes and never letting us down as well as experiencing football at this level which the club will benefit from on the long run, it has been quite a frustrating season at times due to injuries and unavailibities has prevented me from naming a consistent side throughout the whole season. But with the crucial run in this may shortly change as many players are on the mend.
We are without a first team game this weekend which gives the players another week to recover so I do expect to have Tola Odedoyin, Markel Greenidge, Bryan Turner, Ben Lampon, Marian Stoykov available for selection for the match away to Stanway Rovers.
On Saturday we saw a substitute return for Luke Rogers which is always good to see and another excellent 90 mins under his belt for young Liam Dadds and with Ben Connell hitting goal scoring form since his return from injury means that we will be much better equipped for the run in.
Last week we also saw the return of Goalkeeper Richie Robins to the club on a short term loan from Ryman League Bury Town and this will give competition to Adam Wilding for the number one shirt.
Joe Hawkins who has missed the last 12 weeks with a broken ankle will start to kick a ball again this week as well and Jamie Lee Smith will shortly return to training.
I am pleased with the progress of all of our players and each and every one of them is ready to fight till the end.
With no game this week I will be heading over to Witham to cast an eye on our reserve team.
Once again many thanks to everyone off the pitch for the efforts and your support.
