Update on the Reserves.

How to describe November? Wet, disappointing and successful?

Our first game in November was the Saturday after our victory against Brightlingsea in the Chell Trophy, we travelled down to Long Melford and were embarrassed. Arriving with only twelve players we equalised twice and conceded once more. Leaving Stoneylands pointless we felt depressed.

Some may say it was the kick up the backside we needed and we certainly turned up the gas when Stowmarket Town visited on the second week. Where we hit seven past them and kept a clean sheet on the way. We continued this form into the following week as we ensured the long drive home was not an upsetting one winning by four goals to one. Interestingly from both games we only really turned up at four o’clock, scoring six in the second half at Stowmarket and three in the second half at Newmarket.

With this in mind we knew that at Woodbridge we could not afford to be sloppy in the first half. We although we came in one goal up at half time we limited their chances and were resolute in defending as a team. We then attacked more successfully in the second half but also became more open as we pushed players on.

With Jason away during the Woodbridge game I (Adam) was left responsible to manage the team on the day. A daunting task but one I thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks to the players for their support and more importantly to my Dad (Bernie) and Steve Parker for their help on the side lines.

In between the Newmarket and Woodbridge fixture we had to unfortunately postpone our fixture against Diss as the pitch was waterlogged after the heavy rain that hit North Essex.

Thirty-two players have represented us now in thirteen competitive fixtures this season. A number I am sure will grow.

May I take this opportunity to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all of the Wivenhoe Town Reserve Team Coaching Staff.

Up the Wiv,
Jason and Adam
