One of our own, local lad Jake Hearn brings us his thoughts on the Dragons and our start to the Season.

With me currently entailing my 5th season at the club, it's fair to say I've experienced the high's and lows of Wivenhoe Town Football Club. Played and trained with lots of players, and also making friends with a few on and off the pitch. Some who have moved onto higher divisions or simply left for another team in the league. This is basically my take on how I've found things at the club since my time here.

There's no doubt from when I started, to now, things have certainly been moving forward. With MO coming in, and sharing his knowledge with the players he's bought in and players who were already at Wivenhoe. With next to no funds to work with he's bought in top quality players from around Colchester and got the players playing for each other. The part and parcel of football has seen players leave the club to join rival clubs in the league but from mine and many other players perspectives, the grass isn't always greener and I'm sure a few of the lads will tell you the same.

Working with MO and seeing the club being transformed into the Semi Professional club it deserves to be, has made me proud to be a Wivenhoe lad, playing for Wivenhoe Town. Unlike the first team, the reserves have seen a few managers come and go for different reasons. This however has not unsettled the club as a whole, and the regular reserve players have still been focused on achieving their ultimate goal which is of course regular first team football. We've now had Jason enter the club with a fresh perspective and he was keen to develop the players he had and share what he'd learnt in previous pastures. And what a fine job he is doing.

Both sets of managers have the club as a whole playing for each other. This is a rare case of 2 teams but 1 club, which is also exciting for players such as myself what to achieve first team football. Past reserve fixtures have been few and far between but with all the reserve leagues merging and reserves having 30 odd fixtures a season the competition has been better than ever. Jason has pushed players into the first team with MO providing plenty of opportunities for everyone.

I can honestly say with the time I have been here, and seen the club how it was to now, everyone has been doing a fantastic job of running it. There's a lot the goes on off the pitch that the Wivenhoe faithful do not see and it's a great thing to realise the club is moving forward. Although we've dropped down a division this is in my opinion the best team I've seen Wivenhoe have. First and reserves.

A special mention to the ladies in the kitchen (Janet & Lorraine) who continuously make sure the club ticks over as well as giving up hours of their time on match days as well as weekdays. Dave the camera man who is there rain or shine with his camera to make sure the lads get that all important Facebook profile picture. And of course the fans who arrive every Saturday to cheer us on as well as the coaching staff, smudge the goal keeping coach and Bernie the physio to Kev who when he can, attends and conducts the warm ups.

The club is in a good place and will only move forward. Thanks to everyone.
