This Weekend the 1st XV were back in action on home soil for the first time this season. Following an emphatic win last Saturday on the road they were obviously keen to build on their strong start. The visitors had also found winning form in their first league game and the Wivey boys were fully expecting them to bring a much stronger challenge.
The game however was to be a pretty one sided affair as Wiveliscombe got to work kicking off up the Recreational ground slope. The visitors had no answer for sustained Wivey pressure and the home side were on the scoreboard within the first few minutes. Hornets soon went down to 14 men following injury and although they appeared to travel with replacements, none of these were used. By the time the first 40 was up the hosts were in a commanding position having already run in over 30 points.
The second half was a carbon copy of the First as again Wiveliscombe dominated across the field, running in tries at will. This took its toll on Hornets and several of their players began to flag due to increased workload when they were reduced further down to 13 men. When the game ended “somewhat prematurely” it was a commanding final score of 76-5 to the Wivey boys.
Yesterdays was another solid performance, however, both players and spectators imagined a much tougher show down. Next week the 1St XV travel to Gordano in pursuit of another win on the road, anyone wishing to come along is more than welcome.
