The 1st XV returned to action yesterday with a trip North to St Bernadette’s. Wiveliscombe, fresh off the back of their most successful seasons in recent years were keen to make an impression and throw the marker down early. The game got underway and it was the Wivey boys who started strongest, scoring within the first couple of minutes. It was clear that the lads were out to throw down the marker early as a statement of intent for the year to come. The first half was dominated by Wiveliscombe as they ran in a further 3 tries before the first 40 was up. Realistically they could have easily been 50 points up at the break but several chances went begging due to rustiness.
The second half was more of the same as the Wivey boys dominated in attack and stayed rock solid in defence to deny the hosts any chance of playing rugby. St Bernadette’s did find a bit of possession towards the end of the game but by his point it was too late and some last ditch defence by Wiveliscombe denied them any chance of getting on the score board. The final whistle sounded and left the visiting Wivey boys with a very well deserved 57-0 bonus point win.

Saturdays game was at times slightly sloppy but overall a good performance in an often tough Bristol environment. Next week the 1st XV return to action in their first home game of the season vs Hornets down at the Rec, it would be great to see as many of you there as possible.
