Match Day One
A fast start against a side we haven't beaten in the past was called for, so hitting the post after 70 seconds and having two shots saved by the keeper suggested good things today. A false dawn threatened to have taken place when Bedwell went in front after an error in our defence. Wodson responded with the woodwork being struck again, but the opposition carried on hitting us on the counter attack at fast pace and with good passing, also hitting the woodwork twice in quick succession from several moves. A Bedwell corner moved across the area without a touch, and the ball flew in to the top corner courtesy of an attackers knee !
The half was drawing to a close when Chloe slid a pass into Amber but she took a slightly heavy touch and the keeper cleared it straight to Amelie - her first time drive flew into the net, reducing the arrears. Less than 60 seconds later Chloe crossed from the left and Amber's precise volley found the bottom corner, bringing us level and stunning the opposition with a 2-2 half time scoreline.
Wodson were more organised, and took control playing up the slope, creating chances and passing the ball well whilst negating the threat at the other end with a good defensive shape. The woodwork was struck again, by Chloe, from a cross-shot as we went in search of a winner, and we looked capable on the balance of play. Emily came back on, and immediately received a pass that had been constructed through several team members, and her 20 yard strike arrowed over the keeper and into the net, to give us the lead.
We comfortably saw the game out, almost scoring again, but to grab the points from 2-0 down showed great team cohesion and spirit.
A proud Manager tonight.
