A hot day at last
at last a sunny hot day...
We lost the toss and were put to bowl first. There were some lowlights and some highlights in the field.
Notable mentions in the field
-- excellent fielding by Joe Cable, who stepped in at the last minute to help the team out as we were short of players. He was very good at chasing the ball down and stopping the boundaries.
-- excellent catching by Hasanain who was our stand in wicket keeper. There was one excellent catch for a wicket but it was not be due to a no ball.
-- A very good diving catch by Oliver, he was outstretched in his dive and managed to keep a hold on the ball. Well done.
-- Good overs from Shivan, in his first appearance for the team in a league game, he also got a wicket on his debut.
No so notable mention was the bowling. Our bowling was very bad. Suffice to say we had conceded 31 runs in extras. sorry but that was not good enough.
In the end, the opposition put on a total of 103 runs.
This looked daunting for our boys, but I told them it's up to them to turn up today in the batting department as they have not done so all season.
Not a good start to our innings, Ronan got out first ball to an inside edge, very unlucky. Max.B came on next. And what we saw for the next 16 overs is what we had been looking for all season.
Notable mentions with the bat:
-- Max.B and the captain Hasanain, put a partnership of around 70runs together. Doggedly the pushed for singles, punishing the fielders for misfields and really placing the ball in the gaps.
-- Hasanain retired with 30 runs.
-- Max B finished on 26 runs and not out.
We made a total of 86 runs and lost the game by 17 runs. If only our bowling was tighter ... when our batting came together on the same day.......
