Woking vs Wapping
Lee Valley Hockey
After a somewhat uneventful journey to Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis centre, excitement in the team was building to play at such a prestigious venue, except for Andy Barton who was returning to his home ground.
Woking started out tentatively whilst getting accustomed to the surface. 10 minutes in Woking was building pressure down the right and broke forward, Wapping’s keeper pulled out some great saves but a rebound popped out to Pollock who slotted it across the goal to Mainwaring who calmly stuck the ball in the net.
Spurred on from this Wapping stepped on the gas sending some piercing balls through Woking’s defensive lines leading to some promising scoring opportunities for Wapping, but the efforts of Deeley and Moss deflecting a shot off the goal line kept them from adding to the scoreboard.
Early in the second half saw Woking moving the ball around the back but an error from Pollock saw Wapping counter swiftly, with the ball ending up in Woking’s net. Woking were then full steam ahead on the next play, with Kuijpers receiving the ball down the left, made his way into the D, Dutch ovened the defender and won a corner which was converted by Pollock from McLean.
Barton finished off the game in true “Barton” style, a 2 minute green card which the umpire likened to assault.
