Woking vs Amersham and Chalfont
Whether it was due to their mid-week victory against OGs, or courtesy of a far longer walk to the pitch than the team were accustomed to, there were some tired legs as the match against Amersham & Chalfont got under way.
With a few structural changes due to a last minute dropout, Woking struggled to find their form with plenty of turnovers in the middle of the pitch and not enough linkage between the lines. The first two thirds saw few opportunities for either side, and fitness levels were tested with a lot of legwork on a hot day.
Following a dressing down from Mani in the break, the final third saw a step up in the team’s performance. A drag flick from Dutchman Kuijpers almost put Woking on the scoreboard, but was denied by the keepers flailing stick. Some rogue marking almost saw the visiting team sneak ahead, until an unconventional volley off a deflection from Mainwaring landed the ball in the back of the net. Despite a few impromptu substitutions as niggles crept in, the home team saw out the match in finer form than they had started.
