It is with great pride that I take up the position of Chairman at Wolverhampton Rugby Club. The club has been a big part of life now for 32 years as a player and 5 years as an official. I follow in the footsteps of people such as Stuart Frazer, Hughie Sinclair, Les Power and James Needham which have all driven the club forward both on and off the pitch or protected the future of the club through difficult financial times, so I feel I have a lot to be compared with.
I would particularly like to pay tribute to our previous Chairman, Mr Martin Hawkins, who devoted a lot of his time to the club and gave us an even greater commercial focus which is now critical in managing a modern rugby club. I wish Martin well in his future endeavours.
I am pleased to be the Chairman at a very exciting time for the club. The First XV were promoted for the first time last year since the formation of competitive leagues supported by a very active 2nd and 3rd XV's. The very successful Colts side should provide a few key players to strengthen the squads. The mini/junior section continues to be strong with a dedicated coaching staff.
Off the field, we plan to redevelop the clubhouse. Hopefully people have seen the plans displayed around the club or on the website. We have now submitted the plans to the local authorities in order to gain planning permission and will now work as a team to provide sources of funding to get us started on Phase 1.
To conclude, I am immensley proud to represent the club at a senior level. From someone who still remembers his first Sunday morning down the club at U14 and getting a clip round the ear for running backwards from the try line, it is a position I never thought people would trust me with. I promise to work hard and move the club forward so that we can realise our ambition of becoming the most admired Rugby club in the Staffordshire and West Midlands area.
Many Thanks for your support.
Kendo
I would just like to congratulate Kendo on becoming Chairman, It is not a role that many people relish but one that is essential to lead the club.
I was pleased to play my part over the last few years in many areas of the clubs development and I know that Kendo will work hard to deliver the success the club so rightly deserves.
I wish everyone good wishes for the new season and especially Kendo in his new role, I hope he gets the support essential for the Chairman to be succesful.
Kind Regards, Martin
