Olivia Leech makes it a ‘fantastic four’ for Woodbank Cricket Club

Woodbank Cricket Club are proud to announce that Olivia Leech has been selected to represent Lancashire girls at under 11’s age group. Olivia now joins Danielle Collins (Under 15’s), Isobel Jemmott and Katie Schofield (under 13’s) in the County ranks

Not to be outdone, we have two young men in the shape of Harry Dearden - Lancashire and England (under 17’s) and our latest recruit – 1st team wicket keeper Dominic Gowers, Lancashire (under 15’s) who will represent the county and country in Harry’s case this year. Harry starts his international season with a tour to Sri Lanka in March, playing a Test, ODI and Twenty/20 matches during the tour. Harry will be back in England in time for the start of Woodbank’s League campaign.

Whilst we have six Juniors who will represent Lancashire/England this year, the club is also extremely proud of the three boys who will represent Woodbank at District cricket level this year – Matty Wilkes (under 15’s), Matty Hall & Owen Jackson (under 11’s/under 13’s). Well done to all three

In addition to the success of our Junior cricketers, the club is also proud to announce that John Stephens, one of our level 3 coaches, has been appointed as Coach/Manager to the Bury & district under 11’s side. John not only brings a wealth of cricket experience to the role, he also brings a cool, calm and extremely positive manner to the side, one of which I am sure will serve the team well throughout the season.

Chairman Peter Hamer states; ’This is a fantastic achievement for all the boys and girls of Woodbank Cricket Club, these achievements where unheard of four years ago and is a testament to all the hard work that the girls and boys have put in and effort of all the coaches who have given their time to train & manage our junior section.

The club’s committee has worked hard both on and off the field to raise the profile of the club. These representative honours coupled together with success of our senior teams last year and recently refurbished club house makes 2014 a really exciting year for the club. Plans are underway for further developments/improvement of our current facilities…watch this space.
