A CUP tie to Remember.
Woodbank Black put on a dogged display against a strong Premiership team (Pennine Black)
A Great old fashioned Cup game, with the Premiership team being favourites to win this match. Pennine came to Nuttall Park after a Great result against Premiership league Leader the week before.
The game kicked off with some heavy sparing between the 2 teams and Pennine initially looking the stronger. Woodbank looked nervous and seemed to be rushing and just kicking the ball without thinking about their passing game we all know they can do.
Woodbank came so much under pressure from their goal kicks that Pennine struck first and then quickly went 2-0 up.
The Tinker man, then made changes and changes to the game came with Tom Nally (The Smiling Assasin ) gambling and Shooting on to be pushed away but straight to the feet of the Little wizard Amaan Sadiq to pull a gaol back for the Black’s 2-1 Goal..
Now the game came to life with end to end and Woodbank beginning to start putting the passes together and then PENELTY to Woodbank.
The Tinker man Strikes again. Substitution made. Joe The Hitman Holland comes on to take the penalty. 2-2 Goal. Joe Holland never misses. (Wish we had him for England in the Euro Championship next year for penalties, He’s not German his he Steve )
Now the Blacks where back in the game. It was end to end and Woodbank beginning to string the passes together and put pressure on Pennine.
Half Time. Not always a good time to allow the opposition a break when the a team is beginning to take full control of the game.
This was a Cup tie and more. Both teams where excellent with wave after wave of attacks and Then Bang Woodbank had been sustaining some pressure from Pennine with great saves and Tackles from The Woodbank Defence then some simple passes and a great through ball from the Wizard Amaan Sadiq sets The Smiling Assassin away, Penalty Again.
No need for a substitution. The Hitman Joe Holland steps up and goes the opposite way to the first penalty 3-2 Goal. Nuttall Park was rocking from 2-0 down to 3-2 up amazing what a comeback.
Every player battled and Woodbank where now the stronger team and where beginning to hit Pennine on the break time and time again.
Pennine hadn’t given up and kept pushing for an equaliser and disaster struck when Pennine where given a soft penalty.
Pennine stepped up and hit high into the top corner but NO Man of the Match Dylan Chilton pulls off a one handed save to turn the ball over the cross bar. Unbelievable, this was a Save of the highest quality for any Goal Keeper in any league in the world.
3-2 Final score. Each and every player played their part which puts the Blacks into the last 8 of the main cup.
Well Done to all and a great team performance………
