2012 - Celebrating 50 Years of Woodcutters Cricket

2012 sees the Woodcutters Cricket Club celebrate it's 50th anniversary.

To celebrate this milestone, the Club is proposing to hold several special events, details of which will be announced after the AGM in February.

In the meantime, here are 10 pieces of trivia from 1962....

  • England hosted Pakistan in a 5 test match series. Captained by Ted Dexter, they win the series 4-0.
  • Brazil win the 1962 World Cup in Chile, beating Czechoslovakia 3-1. (Scotland didn't qualify!)
  • The US military forces go to DEFCON2 during the Cuban Missile Crisis - one step away from nuclear war
  • Astronaut John Glenn orbits the earth for the first time in the mercury capsule Friendship 7
  • Ministry of Health suggest DIY masks as choking fog spreads across Britain
  • The Rolling Stones make their debut, supporting Long John Baldry at London's Marquee Club
  • Andy Warhol premieres his Campbell Soup Cans exhibit in L.A.
  • The Beatles release their first single "Love Me Do"
  • Marilyn Monroe is found dead.
  • The first James Bond movie "Dr No" is released starring Sean Connery
