Woodcutters aim to chop league outfit down to size in ESCA cup final

Between 1962 and 2012 Woodcutters Cricket Club, a non-league social cricket team based in North Edinburgh, failed to win a single cup game.

This Sunday, they play in the final of the ESCA Activicity President's Plate against Division 7 promotion prospects Hawick and Wilton CC.

The T20 midweek outfit caused a shock in the semi-finals by disposing of Division 7 runaway winners Tranent CC for just 97 runs.

Captain Duncan Scott said: "We have waited 51 years for this moment, my men are ready. There is genuine excitement by the players and supporters alike."

With their active social media presence, Woodcutters have fans as far afield as New Zealand and South Africa, who will be following the final via the Woodcutters’ live tweeting.

For fans closer to home, the club have organised a coach to take the team and supporters to the game, which will be played at Broomhall CC in Fife.

Win or lose, it promises to be an historic and memorable occasion for all concerned.
