'Cutters cruise past Inchcolm to 8 wicket win
The Woodcutters recorded a comfortable 8 wicket victory over Inchcolm at New Field on Wednesday night.
The Woodcutters returned to midweek action for the first time this season on a greenish wicket at New Field.
Two "new starts" of sorts for the Woodcutters, with Carvel Bennett and Dave Marwick sporting new cricket spikes, who both decided after suffering months of ridicule, that it was time to part with their hard-earned in the close season.
Skipper Nikkie Vohra won the toss and elected to field first, obviously confident that his team would be up for a run chase.
Inchcolm openers Palmer and Walsh arrived at the crease, with Rosh Vohra and Phil Neaves opening the bowling for the Woodies. Both batsmen fell to consecutive balls in Phil's 2nd over and at the end of the 4th Inchcolm were 9 for 2. Chapman and Webb steadied things for the visitors but found runs quite hard to come by. In the 10th over with score on 33, Webb fell for 12 to the bowling of Bennett with Bowie pouching the catch.
Woodcutters took control of the game when they took 3 more wickets for just 7 runs. Chapman (17) lost his wicket as Skipper Vohra bowled him with a beauty, Humpage fell for a duck off the next ball, with Jonny Findlay who managed to survive the hat-trick ball from Nikkie, falling to a Steve Hider catch at point off the bowling of Bowie for 6. Some good batting from Hunter (21) and Moody (12n.o.) moved the total onto 83 before Steve Hider took his second catch of the night, this time off the bowling of Mark Brown in the last over. Incholm total 83-7.
The Woodcutters batting order was changed to give some players some time at the crease before Sunday's cup game v Morton.
They opened with Roshan Vohra and Steve Hider and the pair put 32 runs on the board before Hider lost his wicket to the bowling of Moody for 8. Phil Neaves went in at 3 and looked solid before he was given out controversially. He played at one down the leg side and there was a noise as his bat appeared to hit the ground and not the ball, but Skipper Vohra raised his finger and sent a rather disappointed Phil back to the pavilion for 3.
Rosh continued to bat well hitting a 4 down the ground before reaching his first ever 25 retired not out for the Woodcutters. Woodies were home and dry in the 14th over, with Scott (21no) who had hit a couple of 6s, and Campbell (11no) reaching the target and with it a comfortable 8 wicket victory.
