Rugby, Under 17 Friendly
Colchester 22 – 36 Woodford
Woodford under 17s got back to winning ways last Sunday with a good away victory over Colchester. Woodford got off to a very quick start, Number 8 Sheehy, offloading to Dutch who drew the defence before putting Sanderson over for the opening try under the posts. Phillips converted. Sanderson soon got his second when he outpaced the Colchester defence to touch down wide on the left.
The Woodford forwards were in dominant form and Somers soon crashed over for the first of his three tries. Phillips again converting.
Colchester then came back into the game with two quick converted tries. Towards the end of the first half, Somers scored a great individual try when he chipped the Colchester defence and ran on to collect a good bounce of the ball, to again score under the posts. Herring this time converting to give the Woodford boys a healthy 26 – 14 half time lead.
The second half saw a more even game, but Woodford still scored two more tries. The first from prop Bukenya, when he crashed through the opposition defence from a well worked penalty move. Colchester replied with a penalty and an unconverted try, before Somers rounded off his hat trick when he was driven over the Colchester line to touch down on the right flank.
This Sunday 29th April, sees the Woodford boys playing their biggest rivals Westcliff in the Final of the Essex Cup at Barking RFC with a 1pm kick off.
