Woodford melt then fire up in the second half.

Woodford melt then fire up in the second half.
On a day more suited to ice creams and deckchairs Woodford travelled to Braintree to face possibly the strongest team in Essex.
With the sun beating down there was little need for a warm up to get the players sweating. Woodford dealt well with the Braintree kick off but an error forced the first scrum. A quick put in from Braintree saw the ball spun out wide and eth winger dance through tree tackles to score an unconverted try.
Woodford followed up the re-start Rhys tackling the receiver to force a scrum. A solid scrum produced ball that Woodford re-cycled to feed Mick Chamberlain, on to Toby Harrison and up to 5 metres from the Braintree try line. Braintree infringed and Woodford ran the penalty only to cough up possession and Braintree to run the length of the pitch to score 10 – 0.
Try as the might Woodford would work up a good position but with ball in hand Braintree found the gaps to break through out wide or intercepted passes to score five more tries, converting one to give a 37 – 0 half time score line.
Woodford re-organised at half time and re-set their defensive patterns. This was rewarded with a more even second half. Woodford were able to cancel out the Braintree threat and mount several attacks of their own. The next quarter was played in the middle of the pitch as both teams strived to dominate. In the final five minutes the Braintree forwards drove over for a score and with the very last play of the game managed to work the winger in at the corner to win 47 – 0 but a far better second half showing from Woodford.
