Newbies star for u11s
Outstanding performances from debutants make it 6 out of 7 wins for Woodford Green Under 11s.
On a perfect summer's morning on The Green (at last), our U11s took on Frenford in a 12-a-side Terriers format friendly.
Frenford won the toss and put Woodford in to bat. Openers Mustafa and Barney made a solid start against some top quality bowling from Frenford. Regular team members were joined by Hamza, Nibras and Zara making their first appearance for the club this season. All three newbies played starring roles with the bat, but Hamza's unbeaten 18 including three fours was the performance of the day. All the team got a bat with each pair getting four overs each. Despite some comedy run outs, Woodford Green put on an impressive overall batting performance. The damp dewy outfield didn't stop the boundaries with Barney, Sam, Nibras, and Zara managing to hit fours. With some good batting from rest of the team - and a little help from extras ;) Woodford Green reached 156 for 8 after 24 overs (net 116 with deductions).
Zak opened the bowling for Woodford in spectacular fashion, taking 2 clean bowled wickets for 1 run in his first over. With some excellent fielding from our team, Frenford lost another 5 wickets to run outs, with Sams direct hit from cover being the standout moment. Despite a good effort from Frenford, Woodford Green got a win with the visitors reaching 114 for 8 (net 74).
Well done all, lets hope the weather behaves for the rest of the season and we get lots more days like this Sunday.
