How To Demolish A Winning Platform

An inexcusable and inexplicable 1s collapse saw a fantastic century by Palmer go to waste

After winning toss (Qazi's 1st in the league games) and opting to bat first on the usual Old Brentwoods motorway, Greens had a splendid start of 115 courtesy Palmer and Mark, and were dictating the game at 175 for 2 when they decided to self implode in the most clueless manner.

Almost everyone either gifted high balls to fielders (including the captain) or timidly lobbed it inside the circle. Most disappointing was the fact that nobody - after the initial half - supported Palmer who made it back-to-back 100s at Old Brentwoods and continued to blaze away for a near run-a-ball 115 in possibly the hottest conditions we have had cricket in this summer.

It's a shame that such a glorious innings ended up being on the losing side.

A score of 300 which was on cards ended up being a mediocre 207, hence taking away any initiative the Greens would have had when bowling on that deck.

The initial bowling burst by the pacers didn't help as well, with OBs getting a very decent start. Spinners did pull it back a bit but TJ (pro of OBs) made sure no one of the three spinners dominated the proceedings.

Humiliation was saved by couple of late wickets but losing by 6 wickets with 14 overs to spare is still a tame loss and something that should make players realize this was way far from their best.

Old Brentwoods have been solid this season (no. 3 in table so far) and to let them win from our position of strength needs a good amount of reflection and realization to be done.

There really shouldn't be any excuses or defense after this capitulation and especially after how the boys rallied in the game against Old Parks.

Realistically speaking, this performance has to be considered as a massive dent to the promotion chances. We are still mid table and there's still 65% of the fixtures remaining but if the top 3/4 sides of the division are to be challenged on their turfs, more guts and responsibility have to be shown.

Winning games on the road is never easy but after getting ourselves into an ideal position by 1/3rd of the game, and then caving in to the opposition like that is quite unacceptable.

Next up is Benfleet away and a big performance is expected and boys need to lift themselves up since there is a lot of cricket to be played in the season.
