Litherland REMYCA 3 - 1 Woodstreet

The latest fixture saw the Woodstreet travel to Bootle to face Litherland REMYCA Reserves in the first of a two-legged cup tie hoping to continue the fine run of form. They did however make the trip missing no fewer than ten members of the squad.

Despite this they managed to somehow field a strong eleven with grace in goal Nat, Midge, Andy and Martin across the back, Jason, Hints, Pollard Perry and Stokesy across the park with Dude up top.

The game began well and from the kick off the away side managed to furnish a decent chances, with nobody to finish a strong cross from the left foot of Hints.

Now it was a mildly windy day and Adam Grace had forgotten to bring his tights, right on cue an injury was feigned after collecting a through ball from the opposition. This saw the injured Dunn return between the sticks.

The long delay from this "injury" seemed to unsettle the away side, and the next ten minutes turned into a scrappy battle, with not a lot of quality from either side but a lot of passion led to a little bit of handbags, both teams receiving a yellow. It wasn't long before REMYCA broke the deadlock.

They where on top and where managing to find time and space around the edge of the opposition area. After a good break, they moved the ball forward quickly and their right winger found himself with time and space in the area, beating Dunn at his near post.

Woodstreet reacted well to this. They found their movement and Dude began to stretch the opposition. A rare Hughes free kick was the closest the away side came in the first half, cannoning off the post as the stranded goalkeeper looked on. Hints had a good chance to level, but saw his shot blocked from close range. Then, before half time the home side took advantage of sloppy passing in the middle of the park. Again moving the ball quickly to their attackers the, right winger found himself inside the opposition area, with a free shot and he finished well with Dunn slow to react. Two nil at half-time.

Again the Woodstreet reacted well after half time, and they started to hold the ball better, making the other side work. After an even passage of play, Woodstreet got an away goal that they deserved with Dude breaking forward and a fine finish from an ever decreasing angle.

Woodstreet continued to be the more threatening side, however they gave a cheap injury time goal away to the opposition. From a Woodstreet throw in, possession was thrown to the gutter through sloppy play. Opposition broke up the pitch and their fresh substitute managed to get inside the area, his low shot only parried into the net.

3-1 with all still to play for in the return leg
