Geroge Mahon Cup Quarter Final Woodstreet 0 - 2 West Everton Xaviers

I am really disappointed with tonight’s result for a number of reasons; firstly because I believe that the lads have worked really hard this season and deserve the chance to win some silverware.

Secondly because I don’t believe we have met a better footballing side all season and I have really enjoyed watching some, if not all of our play this season and watching how much certain players have developed. We have integrated new players and in to a new ground really well and have a good team spirit and yet we still fail to win the really big games.

I am very, very proud of all of our players and back room staff for the effort and endeavour this season and cannot complain about how everyone has embraced our style of play.

Next is an unreserved apology from me for every incorrect decision I have made throughout the season – like everyone else I do make mistakes and just like you I will endeavour to work hard to improve. Final and absolute thought though is I will never apologise for totally believing in my players and the way the game should be played – if we kick it long all the time then I have failed, if we realise when and where to pass and work hard at all times then I will have done alright.

No disrespect to our opponents today as they worked hard for their victory and on percentages probably deserved to win the game, they did not take chances at the back, they competed for every ball from back to front and finished their chances well – we wish them all of the best going forward in the competition.

Although the game finished 2-0, we were in it right up until the end, creating plenty of chances which we didn't manage to take as well as missing a penalty.

My belief is though that we have the style of football correct, we just need to ensure that going forward we prepare better to ensure we are equipped to compete with our opposition.

1) Things may not always go as planned, remember your team mates never plan to make a mistake and when they do before you react just think about what you would like to be said to you if you had made such a mistake before you open your mouth.

2) Prepare better for games, train well, eat well and be as sharp as you can be! Every time you fail to prepare you turn the balance in favour of a more athletic player to be able to deal with your game.

3) Do the best you can for your club at all times, return text messages in a timely manner, pay your way and attend all team events including training whenever you can!

4) Have confidence in your ability and the belief to use it, work hard to ensure you are in the right shape to do yourself and your team mates the justice you all deserve.

We have two league games remaining and I am confident that we can do well in both if we apply ourselves well, so this season is not over for us by a long way – we are still top and although others have games in hand we must do our best to make them work for the right to be above us.

Next season we promise to do the best we can to improve our pitch and facilities as much as we can - we will train regularly at a decent venue and it is a must that this is supported by all as often as you can, in return we ask all of the above from each of you as we strive together to improve and be the best we can be.

Thanks for all of your efforts so far this season, do yourselves justice and be successful to the end of it. The next game is a week on Saturday versus BRNESC away who will be keen for revenge after our last meeting, enjoy your break and use it wisely.
