Brierley is a familiar name to the club having only recently stepped down as manager of the Sunday team and following the announcement by club secretary John Hardy, it would appear his name was the only one ever in the frame;

"We spoke to Michael early on about our plans and he was instantly enthusiastic at the prospect. What he achieved with the Sunday team over the last 8 years and the fact that this was done from scratch left us in no doubt that he was the man for the job."

"We now have 3 managers all with a long association with the club and I believe that will ensure a good bond beterrn the teams and a stronger club as a whole.

Brierley certainly seemed raring to get going;

"In honesty I cannot wait to get going. There is a huge amount of work to be done before the season commences so the honeymoon will be very short lived."

"As soon as I was made aware of the proposal it appealed to me. I am looking forward to the fresh challenge but the first season is always the hardest and I am under no illusions that our aims must be realistic."
