Woodstreet 0 - 3 Red Rum Reserves

Our worst performance under my Management resulting in a deserved loss 3-0.

We had just beaten Red Rum two weeks ago which could and should have been 10-2, but was an easy 6-3 win.

Very windy conditions definitely played a major part in yesterday's loss.

We talked about being focused, work rate, making sure we won the battle in the middle if the park were Red Rum had their two best players & to have a high number of shots when the wind was at our backs. WE DID NONE OF THESE! & that is why we lost! If we don't work hard and win our individual battles then we will struggle. Our work rate was shockingly poor and we will b poor until we raise that part of our game. What was also disappointing was not shooting and making use of a very strong wind...I stressed the importance of making use of the wind and this was just not acted upon, whereas Red Rum made full use of the wind.

However our back 5 did well & battled throughout the match. Our two wide players were really very good and battled it out for Man of the Match, which finally went to Fraser who played brilliantly up and down the right finishing the match back at right back.

A low key first half were Red Rum had one fair chance was pretty much in our control. & we created and missed chances in the box, with our wide players raiding up and down each flank. But we had a strong wind at our backs and we never shot once outside the box apart from a free kick. We came off with the match in our hands but we definitely needed to raise our games and against the wind we would need to raise our work rate, roll up our sleeves and battle to register a win. Half time 0-0.

Half time talk was pretty much around having to battle and win our 1 on 1's to win this match as we were against the wind. We didn't and our work rate was poor in the 2nd half.
Red Rum raised their work rate began to battle and guess what they shot from outside the box. Their first shot in the 2nd half a good 25 yards out caught the wind and flew in to the roof of the net. 1-0. 10 minutes later and with us pressing for an equaliser a long ball out from their defence to the lad who scored the first goal, one touch and bang another shot from 25 yards, 2-0.

Surprising what happens when you shot and use the conditions!

We pressed without really playing well and to be fair to Red Rum they were on top as they worked hard and much harder in certain areas than we did!

The match was rounded off with another Red Rum shot that flew in from just inside the box 3-0. Red Rum certainly used the conditions as their 3 goals all flew in using the wind.

This was a shame because we are a far better team than Red Rum. But did we go out believing we were? Did we go out too confident after beating them two weeks ago, probably.

Did we do what we set out and discussed:- Did we work hard enough, no! Did we battle when required, no! Did we use the conditions, the wind and shoot, no! Did we win the battle against their two players I highlighted as the two to pick up, no.

If we are to be successful then we have to work harder, battle harder and listen to any game plan. This is a time for the team to reflect on this match and whether this is the League they wish to remain in? As Red Rum are a team we should easily beat always...

One match left against a good side. Can we prove to ourselves that we belong in this League and can be competitive? This final match we require us to dig in, battle hard, win our battles our individual match ups, and have a higher work rate then them. If we can do this then we can prove to ourselves that we belong here....
