Tibshelf were the visitors to the Jubilee Playing Fields who Woolley had comfortably beaten 3-0 earlier in the season but since then the visitors have barely lost a game with some impressive victories along the way.
In a howling gale and extremely heavy pitch it was clear for all to see that flowing football was not going to be the order of the day. It was an even contest but the hosts had the better chances in the first half, Dene Cropper
nearly broke the deadlock after 15 minutes when he was left unmarked in the box but his headed effort from an Adam Norris
cross was saved superbly by the Tibshelf keeper. Ten minutes later Woolley did open the scoring this time Cropper turned provider as his through ball split the defence and found the on rushing Tom Norris
who rounded the keeper and slid the ball home. The visitors began to grow in to the game after the goal and had some half chances but they found stand in keeper Liam Wajs
in inspired form but disaster struck just before the break when Matt Lawrie
tripped the Tibshelf striker inside the box and the ref instantly pointed to the spot. Fortune favoured the Moor Men though as the kick taker ballooned his effort over the bar leaving Woolley’s lead in tact at the interval.
The hosts would kick with the wind in the second half but they found it no easier to get it down and play but the ball over the top seemed to be causing the Tibshelf defence some problems in the difficult conditions. The second half was similar to the first with both teams creating half chances but Woolley worked hard as a unit to snuff out the visitors attacks. Adam Norris
was showing no signs of rust after the 5 week layoff and could have grabbed a second for the hosts when he outpaced the defence to latch on to a through ball but his stabbed effort from a tight angle unfortunately deflected to safety off the keepers shoulder. It was a nervy end to the game with both sides showing signs of tired legs but Woolley’s defence held firm with the in form Liam Wajs
behind them mopping up. The hosts final chance of the game came right at the death when a ball fired across the face of goal found its way to Brett Hardy
but the player manager got too much on his strike and the match ball sailed harmlessly over the bar. In the end it didn’t matter as the ref blew the full time whistle soon after giving Woolley their first win of 2012.
