Woolston Rovers Under 14s Greens and Under 14s Golds both had excellent victories in their respective Semi Final encounters...

...on Sunday morning to progress through to the NWC Finals Day at Leigh Miners Rangers Academy on Saturday 15th October.

The Greens entertained Latchford Giants in a local derby at Monks Sports in what proved to be a very tough encounter; Rovers had the edge in the first half and deservedly led 12-6 at the break and that lead was extended after half time with a further converted try but the Giants refused to lie down and came back strongly to narrow the game to just two points but some resolute defence from the determined home side saw them hold on for a fantastic and richly deserved 18-16 victory and a place in the North West Counties Cup Final against hosts Leigh Miners Rangers; kick off 1.30pm.

The Golds travelled to Wigan to face Ashton Bears and produced an absolutely outstanding all-round team display; they built up a healthy 24-10 half time lead and then consolidated their advantage after the break to run out convincing 42-16 victors which was their eleventh successive win since returning from their tour to Catalans at the end of May. They will now face Orrell St James in the NWC Shield Final, kick off 12.15pm.

Rovers PRO Dave Whalley said, “This has proved to be an excellent day for the Woolston club and we are absolutely delighted that both of our Under 14s sides will be playing in the Finals day. We are very lucky at our club to have so many fine sides through the different age groups but to get both of our teams at this age group through to their Final is a great achievement and we are all immensely proud. Both teams have worked extremely hard all year and to see all that effort rewarded makes it all worthwhile. We hope to have a large contingent from the club cheering both sets of lads on and hopefully they will both be able to bring home the silverware.”
