Rovers begin 2018 NCL campaign with home fixture

Woolston Rovers begin their 2018 Kingstone Press National Conference League Division Three season with a home fixture against Salford City Roosters on Saturday afternoon. Kick off is 2.30pm at Monks Sports Club.

Rovers, who will be hoping that it will be third time lucky for them this year to gain promotion having agonisingly fallen at the final hurdle with Play Off Final defeats in the last two seasons, will go into the campaign in a positive frame of mind.

Head Coach John Fieldhouse, who will be in charge for the fourth season said, “We have to show belief in our ability and go out onto the field and perform as well as I know we are capable of. We have a lot of talent in our squad and there is no reason why we cannot have a good year. The past two years have ended disappointingly but we have to use that hurt to galvanise us into ensuring that we don’t suffer the same fate again. We have added a number of players to the squad that will increase competition for places and with our NWML side and Under 18s having had great seasons last year then we can all look forward with immense optimism. We go into the game against Salford City Roosters without knowing to much about them having not faced them for many years but with them having dropped down from Division Two they are going to be keen to make an immediate return so we will be preparing for a tough encounter. It is nice for us to start the season at home but we have to ensure that the advantage isn’t wasted and that we come away with both league points to give us a great platform to build on.”
