BECOMING A MEMBER AND RFU REGISTRATION
All children wishing to play rugby for a rugby club in the U.K. are required to register with the Rugby Football Union (R.F.U.) at the same time as joining your chosen club. You are therefore required to fill in an R.F.U. form to accompany this form and return it with 2 passport size photos to a club official. Once a member of the R.F.U. you will only be required to re-register with them, if your R.F.U. ID card requires up dating. Your coach/team manager will advise.
MEMBERSHIP
W.B.R.F.C. is a members club. All people involved in the activities of W.B.R.F.C. whether playing, coaching, or simply availing themselves of the social activities are required, under the club's constitution, to be fully paid up members. Parents/Guardians of youth section members are considered temporary honorary members while accompanying their child at the club. However, all Parents/Guardians are also encouraged to become members in their own right and enjoy the community that is W.B.R.F.C. A key factor in encouraging a wider membership is a club this size costs a great deal of money to run, e.g. heating and lighting, pitch hire, sending coaches on coaching courses, food for the players, replacing kit etc. The list is endless. Our major sources of income include our membership fees, and bar profits. In addition we raise money from attracting sponsorship and donations, which contribute significantly to the maintenance and development of the facilities at Stoneover Lane. All members are encouraged to actively seek sponsors and donations as the long-term success and growth of our club depends largely on this type of support. Please consider becoming a member in your own right and also consider contacting our marketing officer if you feel you can help, in any way, with sponsorship or donations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Clearly in law a person is a child until their eighteenth birthday. In order for our youth section to run successfully those acting on behalf of the club, and parents of our playing members need to work in partnership and be clear about their specific responsibilities with regard to the children in our care. It is important we work together in harmony, in order that our children gain maximum benefit from their experiences when engaged in rugby football. We at W.B.R.F.C. work hard to make sure your child is in a safe environment at all times. We have a welfare officer to advise coaches of best practice, and all those who regularly help coach are required to have a police check completed on them prior to any contact with our members.
The majority of our coaches are already R.F.U. qualified, or are waiting to go on a coaching course. Our coaches are responsible for your child during training or whilst the team are playing a game. These times are clearly stated by coaches in advance of any activity. Training normally takes place on Sundays between 10.00.a.m. and 12.00. Noon. It is best to check with your child's coach at the end of every week for details of the next session times and venue. We have found that some of the very young cannot cope with a 2-hour training session, and we therefore suggest parents are available to collect youngsters by 11.30 am, especially if it is very wet and cold. Please ensure your child is at the right venue at the right time each week. This applies to all training and both home, and away fixtures, as late arrivals can cause considerable disruption. Parents are requested to support the club at away fixtures by providing their own transport. If you are unable to transport your child to an away fixture, please ensure you arrange for another adult you trust, to look after and take responsibility for your child. We expect all our youth members to behave in a proper manner at all times, e.g. to turn up wearing the correct kit (shin pads, gum shields, and aluminium studs in their boots). It is also suggested they bring a drink, a change of clothes, and a towel. All members are expected to shower and change following training or playing before entering the clubhouse. Children are to be educated and encouraged to acquire high standards of personal hygiene. We also ask all supporters not to enter the clubhouse with muddy footwear. It is important we work together to ensure your child comes to this club to learn how to play rugby in a safe manner, and gains maximum benefit from their time here. Please be reminded that the club coaches can only be responsible for your child for the duration of any organised activity and that you, or your delegated agent, need to be available immediately prior and after each event.
PLEASE NOTE
Mixed sex rugby is allowed in the minis section only. The R.F.U. recommend that players should be at least six years old before they start playing. The age grouping of players is taken as at Midnight on 31st August/1st September at the beginning of the season in which matches are to be played. ALL players will train and play in their correct age groups. Training and supervision will be provided at all times by rugby coaches, during the specified rugby event. However, W.B.R.F.C. its servants, agents or employees are under no liability whatsoever for loss of property, accident or injuries, howsoever caused during the course of training, preparation or matches played at Wootton Bassett or other grounds. W.B.R.F.C. maintains limited insurance cover for players through the R.F.U. The level of cover provided is minimal and extends to severe injuries only. You become a member of W.B.R.F.C. and the R.F.U. and are insured to play, ONLY when you have completed your form(s), paid your money and supplied the appropriate photographs.
FUND RAISING
It is vitally important for a club of our size that all fundraising activity is co-ordinated in order to avoid unnecessary duplication and multiple contacts with any external support, e.g. local businesses. We at W.B.R.F.C. will help and support any persons wishing to help raise money to provide for improved players’ benefits, e.g. the purchase of new playing kit, the funding of an end of season tour etc. The use of the clubhouse facilities can be made available, and there are a number of club officers experienced in this field who can offer help and advice. Please note any monies raised must be administered by the appropriate officer of the club and handed over to our club treasurer who will hold it on a specified account, until such time it is required. The collection of monies from members must be dealt with in this manner. Please be reminded that under no circumstances should any person collect and deposit monies in any form other than the club’s accounts, i.e. the forming of any deposit accounts are strictly forbidden.
