Bude U16s Vs Wootton Bassett– Bude Triangular, 8th April 2012
After the healthy win against Torrington Bassett played their 2nd match in quick succession and lost narrowly to an efficient Bude team.
Bude had 15 players so the full 15 a side game was played, again 17 minutes each way.
Bassett seemed to lack focus for a while after the Torrington game and soon came to realise they had a tough match on when Bude a double penalty saw them cross in the corner for an unconverted try after 2 minutes. 5 – 0.
3 minutes later Bassett were level with a fine try from Lewis Wilson under the posts, converted in Connor’s absence by Tom Sharpe. 5 – 7.
After 12 minutes Bude sustained an injury, Connor joined their team to keep the numbers up and played rather too well for them at fly half!
A minute later and Bude took the lead again with another unconverted try to take the half time score to 10 – 7.
After 20 minutes Bassett's Kyle Bowley helped win a line out against the throw and the loose ball was collected by Josh Lewanituva who powered through the Bude defence for a score under the posts, converted by Macaulay Reynolds. 10 – 14.
2 minutes later and Bassett went further ahead when Alex Drew picked up a ball on the wing and ran strongly through to score in the right corner. Tom Sharpe kicked a great conversion from the sideline to give basset a 10 – 21 lead.
The exertions of playing 2 games in succession began to tell towards the end with some fumbles and missed tackles which Bude fully exploited with 2 late tries, both converted. Bassett came back again and a great run by Josh was only stopped by a desperate but excellent tackle on the Bude 5 metre line. Bassett came back to a penalty advantage but couldn’t capitalise and the final score remained at 24 – 21.
In the 3rd Game, Bude Vs Torrington, the Bassett players still played a big part with Connor Tomley, Macaulay Reynolds, Corey Miller, Josh Lewanituva and Alex Drew playing part games to make up the Torrington 15 and Dylan Hughes and Connor Tomley guesting for the home team. Macaulay Reynolds and Josh (2) even helped themselves to tries for Torrington as they edged Bude by 17 points to 12.
