North Dorset 13 Wootton Bassett 15
Wootton Bassett and North Dorset contested the Dorset and Wilts Vase Final at Warminster on Saturday. The match had added spice as the two clubs should have contested the same final last year but it never took place.
North Dorset started the game well and were quickly three points ahead with a penalty. They continued to dominate the game using their big forwards to drive Bassett back and it was only heroic defence that prevented more scores. However with the sin binning of JP Travers, Bassett's defence was finally breached by a fine try scored in the corner. The resulting conversion missed. Bassett now began to use their limited possesion to good effect and were rewarded with a penalty converted by David Hogg. On the stroke of half time, a flowing move was finished off by Grant Murdoch to leave the score tied at eight each.
North Dorset started the second half with an unconverted try to make the score thirteen points to eight. As their forwards began to tire, Bassett began to dominate the game forcing North Dorset to defend desperately and this resulted in their second yellow card being issued. With the last play of the game, Bassett ran another penalty with the ball reaching Nick Parker in space, and with just the full back to beat, he passed the ball inside to Andy Phoenix who scored close to the posts. With Hogg injured, Grant Murdoch took the kick and sent the ball sailing between the posts to make the final score North Dorset 13 Wootton Bassett 15.
Bassett now go onto represent Dorset and Wilts in the Southern Region Championship in the New Year.
Thats such good news! Well done veryone.
