On the 26th November Wootton Bassett 1st XI played high scoring Cirencester. Despite the biting cold wind Bassett were pumped and raring to go. Emma Langdon's team talk before the match was more than inspirational 'the difference between try and triumph is that extra bit of umph' I'm sure this quote will never be forgotten by the team. As soon as the whistle blew Cirencester were attacking hard. Bassett adapted well to having lost their centre back, Helen Wright, the previous week due to a broken 'baby' toe. Tracy Fieldsend, Tegan Buchanan and Emily Hawkings defended the ball well and stopped them from entering the D. However Cirencester's quick passing and fancy stick work got around our defence and they scored their first goal. Bassett were not prepared to give up. Bassett soon earned themselves an equaliser. This made Cirencester realise that they were in for a good game. Unfortunately before half time the score was 2-1 to Cirencester.

Every player in the team had fire in their belly and couldn't wait to get back on the pitch. Within minutes of the second half beginning Abi Iles scored a stunning goal. Bassett's supporters were blown away, not only by Bassett's play, but also by the weather, as the wind seemed to be getting stronger. However, this was a disadvantage to the team as the wind was on Cirencester's side, which meant goal number three and then number four. Vicky Sammon and Emma Collison were working brilliantly in the middle. They would have made Mark Skivington proud with all the posting up and PAP-ing. We then quickly scored another goal from Sarah price bringing the score to 3-4. Gemma Vinton was making some amazing saves in goal, one of them being from a penalty flick. In the next ten minutes Bassett had a funny turn and their heads dropped and Cirencester scored two more goals. After this Bassett definitely tried to put the 'umph' in to push towards a triumph and the whole team was playing as though their life depended on it. Abi Iles completed her hat trick scoring in the final minutes bringing the final score to 4-6. Bassett were exhausted and the score could have been completely different if it weren't for, player of the match, Gemma Vinton’s beautiful saves.
