Worcester ladies under 15’s will go into the Christmas break in high spirits after a 5-44 win over Caerphilly Tigers U15’s.
The current Thames Valley league leaders braved the weather and a for some a 2 hour drive, to play a return friendly Fixture against the white and green clade Caerphilly Tigers. With Septembers defeat still in their minds the home side where out to prove that the English wouldn’t do it twice in the season.

But They didn’t stay white for long, in poor weather conditions and a very soft pitch, the mud was soon flying. After some ferocious tackles from forwards Sarah Kilmister, Hannah Parker and Megan Willoughby Worcester soon recovered the ball from the kick off and with good ball handling skills from the backs Amber Wilkins was soon on her way to the Caerphilly touch line for the first of many try’s and it didn’t stop there with Martha Farnworth converting her first of the day. At the restart the Tigers drove deep into the Worcester half, but after only 3 phases from the Tigers Sarah Kilmister (playing at hooker) assisted by Courtney Orr and Rebecca Batchelor won the ball from the failed Tigers ruck. Again, good hands from backs Martha Farnworth, Annabel Andrews and Connie Bradshaw allowed Brooke Clarke a free run from the Worcester 20 yard line to score under the posts. More of the same followed in the first half with Caerphilly having no answer to the speed of Wilkins and the two Clark sisters Brook and Cara.

The second half started more promisingly for the Caerphilly Tigers, who pushed Worcester back to their own touch line to put five points on the scoreboard. From that restarts Worcester were almost un-stoppable. With the weather conditions deteriorating and the ground becoming softer underfoot the decision was made to go unopposed in the scrums following the loss of one of the Tigers forwards. This loss forced Worcester to drop a player to match the sides and it was up to Courtney Orr to take a turn on the bench. In only her second game for the team she look to have found her position in the second row where her strength and power has added to an already strong and talented pack. The position seems to be to her liking commenting after the game “this is my kind of sport”. I think she just likes the mud. With the game ending 5-44 to Worcester the 2 hour trip home wasn’t that bad.
