Win v Walsall Keeps Wanderers Top
Wanderers put together an excellent 80 minute performance to record a 50:11 home victory over Walsall RFC and secure an important bonus point win.
Wanderers began the game at a terrific pace, retaining possession through multiple phases. The stretched Walsall defence finally cracked when following surges from Chris Griffiths, Richard Ralph and Jake Saddington, James Price released Tom Biggs who touched down unopposed under the Walsall posts duly converting his own try.
Walsall now enjoyed some territory and possession which led to the Wanderers conceding penalties. Walsall took full advantage to reduce the arrears to a single point.
The Wanderers lifted the pace again and Biggs drove a penalty to within 5 metres of the Walsall line; they executed a driving maul from the line out and hooker Simon James crashed over to give the Wanderers a 6 point lead at half time.
The third quarter was all the Wanderers as they laid siege to the Walsall line; Bill Harling took a great line to crash over under the Walsall posts, James and substitute James Priddey scored tries all converted by Biggs to open up a 33 points to 6 lead.
Walsall rallied once again and forced the Wanderers to defend. Finally from an attacking scrum they moved the ball wide to the left and scored in the corner.
The Wanderers composed themselves and from the kick off regained the initiative, Priddey scored his second following some powerful running from Chris Jenkinson; this was followed by 2 other tries from Tom Richmond, who showed great pace to outstrip the Walsall defence and Sam Carter who benefited from an excellent break from substitute Ned Anderson and good support play from Simon Daws to complete the scoring for the day, Biggs adding one conversion.
