Wanderers Winning Run Ends at Undefeated Dudley Kingswinford
Wanderers travelled to the already crowned league champions of Midlands 1 West, Dudley Kingswinford RFC, for their final league match of the season.
Wanderers competed bravely against a very good, well organised DK team who showed why they had moved serenely through the league season undefeated to finish worthy champions, defeating the Wanderers by 68 points to 19!
The Wanderers fell behind to a converted try within two minutes but, then produced their try of the season when following a 60 metre driving maul Chris Griffiths crashed over the DK line for a try converted by James Price. Further tries from Reg Ohlson and an amazing individual effort from Simon James late in the second half couldn’t stem the try fest from DK who clinically dispatched their opportunities to record an emphatic 10 try victory.
The Wanderers, however, fought every inch of the way; playing their part in a good game of rugby in which the scoring rate was more than a point a minute to the delight of the large crowd basking in the sunshine!. The Wanderers had their fair share of possession and territory but, this DK side can defend as well as attack, snuffing out the Wanderers threat!
Worcester Wanderers can take a lot from their first season at this level in 15 seasons, in particular, the 5 wins from the final 6 games, taking 24 points from a maximum of 25 available, which emphasised the quality and commitment of the clubs’ playing squad!
It only remains to congratulate DK on a fantastic season and to wish them well in National 3 Midlands next season.
