Doddie Weir was born in Edinburgh on 4th July 1970 George "Doddie" Weir began playing rugby for his school, Stewarts Melville RFC. Doddie went on to study at the Scottish Agricultural College, gaining a HND in 1991. That same year, Doddie, who plays as a lock, appeared in his first Rugby World Cup where his helped outsiders, Scotland reach the semi finals.

He went on to appear in two more World Cups for Scotland in 1985 and 1999 and feature in the 1997 British Lions tour to South Africa. Despite a serious knee injury in 1997 whilst on tour with the British Lions, Doddie was able to continue his professional career until he retired in 2004.

Doddie's rugby career saw him gain 61 caps in seven years and following a brave recovery from a horrific knee injury the sports star remained the power house of the scrum until he duely retired in 2004.

Doddie is presently a director for Hutchinson, a water waste management company. In addition to this he is one of the UK's most respected and popular sports speakers, entertaining audiences around the country with fantastic tales/stories and anecdotes from his career at the highest level.
