The best way to keep up to date with Workington AFC

Back to basics

1 week ago By Paul Armstrong

Out of the FA Trophy and down to eighth in the league ...

... Reds will be hoping for a change in fortune when they host Farsley Celtic in Evo-Stik Premier division action at Borough Park.

And after conceding no fewer than nineteen goals already this year, a few clean sheets would be most welcome.

The defence will certainly be given a tough examination against free-scoring Celtic with only Altrincham and Grantham Town having a better scoring record than the West Yorkshire outfit.

Lee Andrews will have to shuffle the rearguard again with Josh Calvert unlikely to feature. Dan Wordsworth does return to the squad, however, after serving his two games ban.

Anthony Wright could be fit to continue and the four who missed the mid-week trip to London – Phil McLuckie, Sam Joel, James Earl and Jamie Mellen – are available.

Farsley are currently two points better off than Reds but have played three games more. They are in 7th position, Reds 8th with both having won thirteen matches to date.

It is over eight years since Celtic visited Borough Park but they have a decent record in west Cumbria.

The pitch was playable on Friday afternoon but the weather forecast isn’t favourable and an inspection will be held at 9am.
