Win, lose or draw, Reds will be making their final visit to Rivacre Park for the foreseeable future on Saturday.

Two clubs with the utmost respect for each other will go their separate ways next week following Motors’ decision to forfeit their status as a Step 2 club. They can no longer sustain football at this level of the game and, to protect the future of the club, will revert to playing at a more local level.

They tendered their resignation to the Football Conference a few months ago.

In what proved to be their last visit to Borough Park, Motors emerged 1-0 winners thanks to an early Karl Noon goal. Prior to that setback last August, Reds had enjoyed a fantastic unbeaten run at Vauxhall’s expense winning eight and drawing one of the previous nine encounters.

The game is vitally important to both clubs, although there will be considerably more nervous tension in the Reds camp.

Both were held to a draw at Gloucester City in their last outing having being in front at half time.

Ian McDonald will have plenty of options available should he chose to make changes with Kyle May, Anthony Wright, Dan Wordsworth and Jonny Jamieson all returning to the squad after missing the trip to Cheltenham on Tuesday.

About a dozen Reds fans made it to Whaddon Road in mid week, although considerably more are expected to make it to Ellesmere Port for the penultimate way game.
