Reds host promotion chasing Guiseley on Monday (3pm), in what will be the last Conference North fixture at Borough Park for the foreseeable future.

Having been relegated after Saturday’s defeat at Vauxhall Motors, Reds look likely to finish at the foot of Skrill North at the end of their ninth season at this level. They would have to win their final two games and Histon lose both of theirs in order to finish 21st.

So, just pride to play for as far as we are concerned but Guiseley need the points to secure their place in the play-offs for a fourth consecutive season. Could this be their year to go up via the play-offs having failed in each of the last three seasons after finishing 5th, 2nd and 2nd.

They won’t have any qualms about a trip to west Cumbria having won here three times on the trot. In seven previous matches against Guiseley in Conference North, they have won six with one match drawn. Back in August, we lost 1-0 at Nethermoor with Jack Lawlor scoring the only goal deep into stoppage time.

Manager Ian McDonald hinted he would change the team that started at Rivacre Park, if only to give the full squad a taste of the action.

Guiseley could include two familiar faces in their squad with Danny Forrest and Michael Potts likely to travel.

Danny played, and scored, for us earlier this season while Michael featured in a friendly for Reds last summer.

There will be two members of the 400 club on duty with Danny Ellis, recently reaching that particular milestone for the visitors, and Kyle May who made his 400th Workington appearance at Guiseley last August.

After the match, the first team squad will join members of the reserves and Ladies team for the annual ‘player-of-the-year’ presentations.
