Reserves lose out at Victory Park

It was another tough learning experience for Reds Reserves when they met a talented Chorley Development squad at Victory Park.

They gave a brave account of themselves in a goalless first half but were outclassed after the break and, for the second successive season, lost to a four-goal margin. Indeed, it might have been more had it not been for Tom Fowler who pulled off three fine saves.

The first half was more even with Reds going toe-to-toe with a Magpies line-up which included several players with first team experience.

They never looked like scoring but a Lewis Jolly in-swinging corner was cleared from under the bar.

Chorley had two legitimate penalty claims turned down in the first half but two minutes after the restart they were awarded a spot-kick for what looked a more trivial offence.

Sope Awe stepped up and converted despite Fowler getting a strong hand on the ball.

And that’s the way it stayed for another twenty-five minutes for what was looking a respectable, narrow defeat.

But Chorley doubled their lead after seventy-two minutes when Callum Darcy’s shot took a deflection and wrong-footed Fowler.

Even at that point, it was still close but two goals in a minute gave the hosts the victory margin they deserved.

Delial Brewster, on loan from Chesterfield, made it 3-0 with a confident finish in the eighty-second minute and, less than fifty seconds later, Dale Whitham scored a spectacular fourth lobbing Fowler from nearly forty yards.

Apart from Fowler, Reds were well served by Jolly, Cam Harker and skipper Cam Carter.
