Ladies welcome return to action

After six weeks without a game, Reds Ladies made a welcome return to First Division North action with a 2-2 draw at Preston North End Ladies.

In a closely fought game where they had to come from behind twice, Reds were unlucky no to win by the finish.

North End started well and opened the scoring but Reds fought back and equalised after a flowing move down the right. Hannah Geen and Mairead Kinsella combined well in the build-up, creating an opportunity for Hayley Bracken who duly levelled matters.

The hosts restored their narrow advantage just before the interval when Reds were slow to react to a free kick.

Anna Williams (inset) regained parity with the second goal after Geen’s initial shot deflected conveniently off the Preston ‘keeper.

For the third game in a row, Chloe Henderson was voted man-of-the-match.

Reds remain in fourth position but are 21 points behind unbeaten leaders Penrith, who they play at Netherhall on Sunday (2pm).

5 sports clubs amongst winners in the Jewson Building Better Communities competition.
