History

A Brief Club History (As provided with thanks by Barry Gibbons);

The club was formed in 1922 with the 1st meeting held at the school (Wormingford) on September the 18th 1922. The 1st Elected President was G.H.Swift, Vice President S.J.Tufnell & Secretary/Treasurer was G.Clark.

Signing on Fee was 1/ = (5p), and Match Fee was 2d (2p). Four committee meetings were to take place during a year.

The First pitch was at Church Playing Field (with permission from Mr Tufnell) with no matches to be played on shooting days. Players changed in the stables at Church House.

In 1929 the Club joined the Brightlingsea and District League and Nayland District League.

In 1930 the Club moved to a meadow behind Wood Hall.

After the war the club moved again to a meadow opposite Chilton Cottages, then back to Wood Hall, Rochfords and Long Farm. Players changed at the Queens Head Public house.

The Club joined the Colchester & East Essex Football League and reached the Semi-final of the Amos Cup and won the Acorn Shield in 1977, beating Paxmans 1-0.

In 1980 the Club joined the Essex & Suffolk Border League and won the Tommy Thompson Cup in 1981.

The Club was one of the First Football Clubs to install a bar and showers in their pavilion, and one of the 1st local sides to play a European Team (Skovde Alk) including a number of players from the Swedish 1st Division and fought out a creditable 2-2 Draw, the Pennet handed over by Skovde Alk is still on show in the Pavilion today.
